“The Colorado Buffaloes (3-9, 2-6 Big 12 in 2009) will open their 121st season and 13th decade of intercollegiate football against the in-state rival Colorado State Rams (3-9, 0-8 MWC) in the annual Rocky Mountain Showdown.”

OK, so both teams finished a dismal 3-9 last year, and “CU enters the game with a three-game losing streak (losses by a combined 18 points), while CSU dropped its final nine a year ago (the last two by three …total points).” However, we know this rivalry always results in a good game, and a fun time for all the fans!

This is the Buffs’ last hurrah… last chance for some sort of redemption… and hopefully a shot at ending this dismal season on a high note! It’s also Senior Day, and if some folks have their way, it would be Dan Hawkins’ last game at CU. That is speculation, of course, and all we really want is to end the year with a Win! The Huskers just won the Big 12 North, so this would almost qualify as a “showcase win” for us.  (OK, at this point, anything would…)

CU is gonna’ have to suck it up this week, as there’s not much left to play for… The Buffs were eliminated from bowl contention last Saturday at Iowa State… the team will spend only 92 hours in Boulder between games, and… are attempting to snap an 11-game road losing streak.

Yes, this one could get ugly… It’s our Big 12 opener, it’s in Austin, TX, and the Longhorns are ranked #2 in the country… oh my.  So, come join the Aspen Buffs and put down a few beers. It could be entertaining. We’ll have Buff schwag to give out, and drink specials all game!

Looking for a bright spot…? “Junior Scotty McKnight has caught a pass in every game he has played in as a Colorado Buffalo—28 regular season plus the one bowl game for a total of 29. He has thus set the school record for the most consecutive games with at least one reception… Nationally, McKnight is tied for the ninth longest streak.”

This year, we’ve secured an “official” home: Bad Billy’s Restaurant & Bar on Cooper Ave. (the old Cooper Street Pier, next to Paradise Bakery, downtown Aspen). Be sure to get there early and tell them you’re there to watch the CU game. We’ll have tables reserved and big screen TVs ready for the game. Thanks to fellow alum Michael Goldman, we’ll have food and drink specials for the game, and we’ll have some fun CU giveaways as well!
